Aspects of Gene Technology
Report from an IVA seminar series 1997-98 (68 s, år 1998)

Pris: 100 kr

The rapid development of biotechnology has led to the introduction of a variety of new techniques and methods based on genetic engineering, both in research and industrial production. As a result, a multitude of questions are emerging in different fields of application. In agriculture, for example, there is much debate about the environmental impact of genetically modified foods; and in medicine, there is disagreement about the ethics of genetic testing.

Beginning in September 1997 and ending in January 1998, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA, arranged a series of seminars on the various aspects of gene technology. The aim was to contribute to a more impartial climate for debate and discussion. Not only with regard to the biosciences but also with a focus on the ethical and social aspects associated with public acceptance of biotechnology. Most of the speakers at the seminars contributed to this report, which covers a whole range of topics - from an introduction to DNA technology to a summary of the general discussion that concluded the series in January 1998.
