In recent years, the environmental ground rules for industrial companies have changed radically--and these changes have brought with them both risks and opportunities. Demands from the marketplace are increasingly influencing environmental demands. In many industries this has led to radically different conditions for competition.
Environmental issues, therefore, are now of strategic importance. Companies need to quickly prioritize their issues and choose a strategic direction.
This publication illustrates the value of a constructive approach to the business challenge that these environmental issues represent. It also sets out a framework that enables companies to better understand environmental issues and.how such issues influence their competitive edge.
The publication is a result of a project that the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and McKinsey & Company have conducted in cooperation wlth World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The project has also received support from the Swedish Waste Research Council (AFR), the Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development (NUTEK) and the Swedish Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
